Fire Chief Jeff Malzone accepts photo from Alex Contreras and Dick Royston

Alex Contreras donated a 2’ x 4’ photo print (photo enlarged by Dick Royston of Color Pages, Inc.) he took when assisting with the cleanup work at the Twin Towers site.   Contreras was in New Jersey during the week of September 11, 2001 attending his father's funeral when he heard the call go out for volunteers with any kind of firefighting or medical backgrounds.  Contreras was a firefighter in the Navy so he filled his pockets with disposable cameras and answered the call.  Contreras can be seen in the bottom left of the photo.  The Department thanks Mr. Contreras for his generous donation and also his dedicated efforts volunteering during the rescue and cleanup operation of September 11, 2001.

The photo was framed and hung with pride in our Training/Community Room at Station 57, 3375 Tarpon Lake Blvd., Palm Harbor.  Mr. Contreras has many photos of his time spent while working for two weeks at Ground Zero, and we are proud to announce his photos will be displayed at this year’s East Lake Fire Rescue’s annual Open House, Saturday, October 2, 2010, from 9-1 p.m.
