Help Prevent Dryer Fires
EAST LAKE-
Doing everyday task such as drying your clothes could start a fire if proper
care and maintenance is done. East Lake Tarpon Special Fire
Control District has run on many fires that could have been prevented if these
recommendations by the National Fire Protection Agency were followed.
Have your dyer installed and serviced by a professional. Before using a dryer,
make sure it has a lint filter if not, do not use it.
The lint should be removed from the filter and around the drum before each use.
When venting the dryer make sure a rigid metal vent hose is used to assure
proper air flow.
Make sure the air exhaust vent pipe is not restricted and the outdoor vent flap
will open when the dryer is on. Once a year, or more often if you notice that it
is
taking longer than normal for your clothes to dry, clean lint out of the vent
pipe or have a dryer lint removal service do it for you.
Keep dryers in good working order. Gas dryers should be inspected by a
professional to make sure that the gas line and connections are tight and free
of leaks.
Make sure the right plug and outlets are used and that the machine is connected
properly.
Follow the manufacturer's operating instructions and DON'T over load your dryer.
Turn the dryer off if you leave home or when you go to bed.
By following these recommendation your chance of a fire starting in your dyer
are reduced.
If you have any questions about dyer safety please call Deputy Chief Steve
Rogers at 727-784-8668.
