February 2003 - East Lake Fire Rescue Fire Commissioners approved the purchased of 3 Thermal Imaging Cameras.  These cameras will be placed on all of our front line trucks and be used for search and rescue.  They should arrive sometime in the middle of March 2003.  These cameras will provide unbelievably clear images in even the worst of  conditions.  Signals are processed by the camera's internal electronics to form an image, which is displayed on the color display.  Automatic brightness control is accomplished via advanced digital signal processing.  The superior sensitivity of the imager provides stable images across a wide range of temperatures.  The cost of each camera was $17,250.00, a seemingly significant price to pay.  However, this is money well spent, since one cannot put a price on a life and these devices save lives!
